What is GIFT? 

GIFT is an abbreviation for ”Grupo de Investigadores de Furoshiki Técnica”. And of course, it means “gift”. When we wrap a gift with a furoshiki which is a Japanese traditional wrapping cloth, we do it as if we enclose our hearts in it as well.

 

Establishment

Gift was founded on the 26th of November, 2009 in Buenos Aires, Argentina by people who shared an interest in furoshiki, to introduce the usage and benefit of furoshiki.

 

Purpose

To study and create furoshiki wrapping ways and introduce them to the public. At the same time, we promote “3R” concept, which is a 3-way approach for environment issues; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We believe that furoshiki can be a substitute for plastic bags. We also support “Mottainai” movement, which is very similar to 3R. “Mottainai” in Japanese, roughly means “still usable or edible”. Our goal is to raise consciousness in people toward environmental problems by spreading the use of furoshiki.

        

Members

Our members are all volunteers, regardless of a member’s nationality, gender, or age. And we are not affected by any governments and companies’ influences. Our intention is global communication to discuss and solve environmental issues by means of furoshiki. We train our members to be workshop instructors to teach how to use furoshiki. “Think Globally, Act Locally”.

At the first impression, you might think using furoshiki is not easy, but once you have your own furoshiki and start using it everyday, you’ll realize how useful it is and fun it is to have it around. Then you are not only enjoying using varied and colorful furoshiki, but also helping our 3R spirit. Whenever you tie a knot in a furoshiki, you wrap with care and love toward the earth in the future.
